Caleta de Fuste, Fuerteventura

Just a few kilometres south of the airport, Caleta de Fuste is a small but very popular holiday resort. Due to the proximity of the airport, it's easy to get to (transfrer time 15-30 minutes).

Caleta de Fuste was one of the first resorts on the island to cater for European tourists and some of the older hotels and apartments are begining to show their age. The town has a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars but not to excess.

There is a large market several days a week, selling all sorts of gift items (most were fake designer items).

The beach at Caleta de Fuste is golden sand. There's a nice walkway that runs round the seafront, leading to the small port. The beach is formed by a small horseshoe bay making it ideal for families and you can hire parasols and sunbeds.

There are two golf courses in Caleta de Fuste, Golf Salinas de Antigua and Fuerteventura Club Golf.

We stayed at the Club caleta Dorada apartments (***) in November 2015 and here is our honest review:
The apartment complex is located just 10 minutes walk from the beach which makes it ideal for families and elderly who do not want to walk too far. The complex consists of rows of bungalows, based around several swimming pools. The swimming pools were well maintained and clean, as were the communal areas.

The bungalows however were a different story. To say they are dated would be an under-statement. They are self catering apartments, although the hotel offered full and half board. The apartment that we had was in a terrible state. The walls were crumbling, tiles broken in the bathroom, kitchen cupboards broken, bidet leaking, lamps broken and beds of a very poor quality.

The maid service forgot to change our linen and towels until we asked after three days and the cleaning was poor.

Entertainment was suitable for families with children but nothing to write home about.

The meals in the self-service restaurant were very good. Food was hot and everything seemed clean. We were shocked however that no hand wash facilities were provided.

The reception area was clean and well organised and the staff were very good. They were trying to make the best of what they had.

Our opinion
We wouldn't stay here again, regardless of cost. The hotel needs to spend a lot of time and money to get it up to a decent standard.
